Europol Data Access Request

Europol will not tell you it holds your data unless you ask directly.

Direct answer: A Europol data subject access request is a formal submission to Europol's Data Protection Function, asking whether the agency is processing personal data concerning you and, if so, what it holds and why. The request can be made directly or through a lawyer, and Europol's response can itself be challenged if you believe it is incomplete or incorrect.
01

Submitted to the DPF

Requests go directly to Europol's Data Protection Function, in writing, with identity verification required.

02

Lawyer Representation Allowed

A request can be made on your behalf by a lawyer, provided a letter of authority is attached.

03

A Range of Possible Responses

Europol may confirm data is held, confirm none is held, or explain data was processed in the past and has since been deleted.

04

Not Necessarily the End

An unsatisfactory or incomplete response can be escalated through a complaint to the EDPS.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

Can my lawyer submit this request for me?

Yes, provided a letter of authority confirming the lawyer's authorisation is attached to the request.

What if Europol says it holds no data on me?

This does not exclude the possibility that data was processed in the past and has since been deleted under data protection rules.

What if I disagree with Europol's response?

You can escalate with a free complaint to the European Data Protection Supervisor for independent review.
