Red Notice Defense

Believe you may be the subject of a Red Notice, or have confirmed one exists? Our network includes a licensed lawyer to bring a challenge before the CCF.

Direct answer: a Red Notice is a request to law enforcement in INTERPOL’s 195+ member countries to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action. It is not itself an international arrest warrant — each country decides how to respond under its own law — and it can be challenged and removed through the Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files (CCF) regardless of where you live.

How We Work

Local Counsel, Coordinated for You

Global Lawyers Link is an international legal referral and coordination network, not a law firm licensed in any single jurisdiction.

Our network includes licensed lawyers in the relevant jurisdiction for your matter, working together on strategy from day one. Representation before any court is always handled directly by the network lawyer admitted to practice there.

How It Works

How a Red Notice Actually Works

A Red Notice is issued at the request of a member country’s National Central Bureau and circulated to every other member country.

195+

Member Countries

A Red Notice is circulated to law enforcement and border agencies across INTERPOL’s entire membership.

≠

Not an Arrest Warrant

Each country decides for itself, under its own law, whether and how to act on a notice — INTERPOL cannot compel arrest.

§3

Political Neutrality Rule

INTERPOL’s Constitution forbids notices connected to political, military, religious, or racial matters.

CCF

Independent Review Body

The Commission for the Control of INTERPOL’s Files reviews challenges, typically over several months.

Grounds to Challenge a Red Notice

A Red Notice is not permanent or unreviewable. Several recognized grounds can lead to its deletion.

  • 01
Breach of Article 3 NeutralityThe underlying case is genuinely political, military, religious, or racial in character, rather than an ordinary criminal matter.
  • 02
Incomplete or Inaccurate DataThe notice contains errors, is based on outdated information, or fails to meet INTERPOL’s own data-quality rules.
  • 03
Abuse of ProcessThe notice appears to be used to pursue a private commercial dispute, debt collection, or personal vendetta rather than a genuine criminal matter.
  • 04
Procedural Non-ComplianceThe request did not follow INTERPOL’s own rules for issuing notices, including insufficient underlying legal basis.

Frequently Asked

Common Questions

Can I check if I have a Red Notice against me?

INTERPOL only publishes a small subset of Red Notices publicly; for most, you may need to submit a formal request for access to INTERPOL’s files to confirm whether one exists.

Can a Red Notice be issued over a civil or financial dispute?

It should not be — INTERPOL rules require a genuine criminal case — but notices connected to commercial disputes do occur and are a recognized ground for challenge.

What is the difference between a Red Notice and a national arrest warrant?

A national warrant is issued and enforced under one country’s own law; a Red Notice is an international circulation of that warrant asking other countries to act on it under their own laws.

Does removing a Red Notice clear my record?

Removing a Red Notice addresses the international alert itself, but does not automatically resolve any underlying domestic case or warrant in the requesting country.
